Today the snow is coming down and I am cuddled on the couch in a mountain of blankets, warm tea, and attention hogging fluffy animals. I am extremely behind on writing reviews for books I have read this year, and this feeling made me think that know was the moment to start getting my thoughts down on paper. And with this atmosphere, where better to start than with The Little Books of Hygge.

I hadn’t heard about hygge until recently. I actually believe it was with the release of the Frozen Broadway Musical. But hygge is an older concept. Originating in Denmark, it can be loosely translated as coziness. It describes the attitudes and environment of being comfortable and living in the moment. Of a certain level of rustic-ness and candlelight.

This book covers all things hygge. From what it is, to what it isn’t. How to achieve it, and how Danes and citizens of the world celebrate it year-round. The author, Meik Wiking, is the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, so if anyone is qualified to talk about how to be happy and embrace hygge, I guess it’s him!

I quite enjoyed reading this book as a break from the normal storyline-based books I’ve been reading lately. It had adorable illustrations, and I felt hygge surrounding me as I read it. This is a perfect little read for a snowy winter such as this one. It did get a little repetitive towards the end, but it wasn’t hard to get through. And any book that can make me feel comfy and cozy and nostalgic for winter months is all right with me!

Overall, 3/5 moose
